Melbourne’s Hamer Hall is open again after a year and a half of renovations. We subscribe to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which usually has most of its concerts there. They have kept the circular building, but seem to have added more glass, red carpet and an extension on the front (the Eiffel tower like structure behind is part of the State Theatre, together they are the Sydney Opera House of Melbourne). It’s looking pretty fancy, though I hope the gaudy coloured (green?! purple?!) facade lighting they’ve also been using is temporary. As part of this weekend’s reopening celebrations they have a bit of a light show and have put up a giant bunch of flowers that says ‘Victoria, take a bow’.
We are looking forward to checking it out properly when we return there in August.
